ANIMAL CARE SPECIALTIES - pre-requisite for Veterinary Assisting Technology
  • Provides entry-level job skills for the animal care industry.
  • Students that pass the class may continue with the medically oriented Veterinary Assistant class in the Spring.
  • Instruction includes medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, infectious diseases, handling, and restraint, medicating and grooming, surgical preparation, safety, and other topics.
  • Potential students should have an interest in a career that involves working with companion animals.
  • This class is an exploration of the many job opportunities in the field of animal care.
  • Students must complete a minimum of 60 hours of externship or work experience to qualify for a Veterinary Assisting Technology externship.
  • Course tuition is $695.00. Additional book and equipment fees are detailed in our catalog and registration page.
  • All students must complete at least a minimum of 80% of all module hours to pass the course.
  • A certificate of completion and a list of competencies is awarded to the student on completion of the course.

VETERINARY ASSISTING TECHNOLOGY - pre-requisite for Veterinary Technician
  • Provides additional medical job skills for the animal care industry.
  • Instruction includes radiology, anesthesia, hematology, urinalysis, dentistry,
    pharmacology, and parasitology.
  • General introduction of lab animal/pocket pets, equine, avian, and reptiles are explored.
  • Students are encouraged to complete a 120hr industry-related externship. Students must have completed a 60hr Animal Care Specialties externship or work experience to qualify for a Veterinary Assisting Technology externship.

VETERINARY ASSISTING TECHNOLOGY PATHWAY
  • A program that prepares students to provide patient management, care, and clinical procedures assistance, as well as owner communication.
  • Includes instruction in animal nursing care, animal health and nutrition, animal handling, clinical pathology, radiology, anesthesiology, dental prophylaxis, surgical assisting, clinical laboratory procedures, office administration skills, patient and owner management, and applicable standards and regulations.
  • Students take two courses over two semesters to complete the Veterinary Assisting Technology Pathway.
  • Both Animal Care Specialties and Veterinary Assisting Technology courses make students eligible to pursue a Veterinary Technician program.
  • Program tuition is $1390.00 for both courses over two semesters. Tuition can be paid for each course at the beginning of each semester. Additional book and equipment fees are detailed in the catalog and on the registration page.
